The Altmark Wind Farm (shown in the cover photo) began operations in 2001 and, with 20 GE 1.5sl wind turbines and a total capacity of 30 MW, was considered a major flagship project of its time. This project was developed and implemented by CPC (then known as Germania Windpark). The wind farm was subsequently sold and successfully operated by a third party for many years. CPC continued to provide technical operations management throughout this period.
After approximately 25 years of operation, the site is now being repowered in collaboration with FEFA and JUWI. The goal is to replace the existing wind farm with modern, higher-capacity turbines, thereby significantly increasing energy production. As one of the original project developers, CPC Germania is in an excellent position to lead the repowering effort: With access to existing documentation, project-specific data, and the expertise gained during the initial development phase, planning processes can be streamlined and well-informed decisions can be made.
As part of this initiative, CPC Germania is constructing three of the new Vestas V162 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.2 MW. As early as 2025, the project successfully secured a contract through the Federal Network Agency’s tender process. The guaranteed feed-in tariff provides a reliable economic foundation and enables the project’s financing to be advanced in a targeted manner. This marks the achievement of a major milestone and represents another important step toward implementation.
The new facilities are scheduled to begin operations in 2027.
Even back then, the Altmark region and the state of Saxony-Anhalt were among Germany’s key locations for wind energy. Projects like this one demonstrate that they will continue to play a central role in the further expansion of renewable energy and the implementation of the energy transition.
